I find myself smack dab in that fight. I am too old to be a boy and not yet really sure I am a man. Although I should be at 39. I have just now, over the last few years concluded that I was let down by my parents…who didn’t raise me to be a man. They are of the Baby Boomer generation that checked out of parenting and set the stage for the State to get involved…and I am of the first generation of that involvement…very realistically caught between how I was “raised” and what I see I should be and desperately trying to self-correct.

I am also simultaneously trying to make sure my 15 year old and 2 year old don’t end up like me. I have seen first hand the man I am not and should have been but wasn’t groomed in that direction…and trying to figure out how to do that from scratch “in time” for my oldest.

Yeah…it sucks.
